Meet Senior Media Specialist, Ainsley Chin
Our Hemisphere team are curious and creative. We love working with our clients, partners and associates to win heads and hearts. Meet the team behind the magic.
Who are you?
Kia ora, I’m Ainsley or “A2” since I’m the second Ainsley in the Hemisphere team!
I was born in Wellington but moved to Singapore when I was 13 and lived there for nearly six years. After graduating from an international school, I swapped the tropical weather for the cooler climate of Canada. I was there for one year of university before jetting back home to Wellington.
What’s your story?
After returning to Wellington, I completed a Bachelor of Commerce with Honours, majoring in Marketing and Film at Victoria University. I worked as a Marketing tutor for a few months before landing a media assistant role at Ogilvy. My two years at Ogilvy offered an energetic start in the industry and led me to joining the Hemisphere team three years ago.
What did you want to do when you were small?
The typical dreams of becoming an actress, singer, doctor, astronaut, or firefighter made it to the list at some point. But some of the more imaginative aspirations were to be a mermaid, Pokémon trainer or elf from The Lord of the Rings, although size-wise I’m much more suited to being a hobbit!
What do you do at Hemisphere?
I’m part of Hemisphere Media, where we maximise the impact of our clients’ campaigns by ensuring their messages reach the right people, in the right places, at the right time to meet their objectives. Every day is different as I’m involved in all aspects of planning, buying, implementation and reporting across all media channels. A lot of time is also spent coordinating with the client service, production and creative teams, and relationship building with our media partners – our media plans would fall flat without their help!
What’s your superpower?
Fixing calculation errors in Excel Spreadsheets – mainly because I have the patience to check all cells, not because I’m actually an expert at using Excel.
Also, being in two places at once – I can’t take full credit for this one though (the source of this superpower is a twin sister!). We both work in media too, so it does create some confusion when meeting people in the industry for the first time.
What are you passionate about in your work?
I love that it’s a balance of science and art. For media planning, we have a range of resources and tools to inform our strategies based on hard numbers. However, there are also times where we must be bold and rely on intuition and creative thinking instead. The media landscape is always evolving too, so the learning never stops!
What is a campaign you’ve worked on recently that you’re really proud of?
The launch for the new Suzuki S-Cross was a huge team effort, so it was exciting to see everything come together. The “Guided Meditations” radio ad was a brave creative concept, and it was especially rewarding to see it recognised as one of the best radio ads that month!
What do you do outside of Hemisphere life?
I love watching movies – not just at home, but actually going out to a cinema! I also enjoy reading, listening to K-pop, doing puzzles and travelling.
